John Depoy, Board President of the Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center Governing Board, will receive the Ohio School Boards Association’s Veteran Board Member Award at the association’s 65th annual Capital Conference and Trade Show on Sunday, Nov. 8. The event is being held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Veteran Board Member Award is given to school board members in recognition of 25 years of service. Of the nearly 3,500 board members in Ohio, only 33 will receive the honor in 2020.

“Through my service with Mr. Depoy on the Athens Meigs ESC Board, I have found him to be thoughtful, prepared, and well versed in all matters that come before the board. His thoughts and decisions are always student-centered. I consider myself fortunate to serve with him on the ESC board as well as for him as an employee at Tri-County Career Center,” said board member, Steve Wheeler.

Connie Dugan, a newly-appointed board member, commented, “I have only been a member of the Athens-Meigs board for a few months  During this short period of time, Mr. Depoy has been nothing but welcoming, informative, professional, and most of, so very dedicated to improving and supporting the students and staffs of the educational facilities that fall under his leadership of the Athens-Meigs ESC.”

In its 65th year, the Ohio School Boards Association leads the way to educational excellence by serving Ohio’s public school board members and the diverse districts they represent through superior service, unwavering advocacy, and creative solutions.
